2021 Fantasy Football Bust - WR Kenny Golladay
Bust: Kenny Golladay
Kenny G has been one of the most talented and productive receivers in the NFL since his being drafted in 2017. He broke out in his sophomore season and eclipsed 1,000 yards in back to back season before suffering from a disappointing, injury plagued 2020 campaign.
Fast forward to this year’s free agency period and KG now finds himself on a new team with a very different situation than he had during his successful 4 year run with Matt Stafford in Detroit.
Below are some quick bullet points of concerns I have for Golladay in 2021:
-New QB Daniel Jones: KG caught 11 TDs in his breakout 2019 season while Jones was only able to THROW for 11 total in 2020
-Offensive Coordinator Jason Garrett: The unimaginative piece of work coach known as “The Clapper” led one of the league’s worst offenses in 2020, and don’t bank on him turning a corner in his 17th year of NFL coaching
-Target Competition: Unlike in Detroit Kenny will be fighting for looks with Sterling Shepard, Evan Engram, Darius Slayton, Kadarius Toney, Kyle Rudolph, not to mention the entire offense flowing through Saquon Barkley
Unfortunately Golladay is staring in the face of a QB and system downgrade and while also likely seeing both his opportunity and efficiency drop. His ceiling and floor are simultaneously trending in the wrong direction, on top of having to shake off injuries. With a late May average draft position of WR19 I will own exactly zero shares of “Minitron” as I see him as much more of a WR3 than WR2 this season. I much prefer taking other crowded WR rooms such as tandems from the Rams, Bengals, Steelers and Browns instead of a guy who’s situation is vastly worse than at any point in his career.
