2021 Fantasy Football Bust - WR Michael Thomas
Bust: Micheal Thomas
Micheal Thomas started off his career with an average of 100/1300/8 in his first 4 seasons and in 2019 he had one of the best WR seasons of all time with 149/1725/9 but his 2020 season was a struggle as he had a line of 40/438/0 due to the fact that he dealt with injuries of his own and from his future HOF QB Drew Brees.
Now that Brees is retired the baton goes to the Swiss army knife QB Taysom Hill and former 1st round pick Jameis Winston. Hill looks like he might be the Saints first choice at QB1 since they gave him a big contract extension but due to his run first mentality probably won't be good for Michael Thomas owners in fantasy. Yes he completed 72% of his passes in his starts in 2020 but there were several games where he threw the ball minimally as they focused more on the run game. If Jameis Winston gets the call to be the starter it would probably be a better situation for Thomas as Winston throws the ball a ton but alot of the throws are completed to the wrong team. The lingering ankle injury in 2020 might effect his 2021 season as he had multiple surgeries to repair several ligaments in his ankle and will probably miss part or most of offseason training due to the surgeries.
If close to 100% healthy and with Winston at QB I would have him with 80/1100/8 but if not healthy and/or with Hill at QB I would have him 50/750/5 just because I don't know how healthy he will be and I don't trust Hill as a starting QB.
All of that taken into account if he is close to 100% for the start of the 2021 season he should still be a solid start every week but with the QB question marks and the injury I would try to stay away from him unless you can get him 3rd round or later in almost all formats.
