2021 Fantasy Football Sleeper - TE Adam Trautman

2021 Sleeper - TE Adam Trautman

I don't think there are any true Sleepers in Fantasy Football anymore. With the flow of information and information readily available to everyone, nobody really has any true secrets. I do feel that there is one player that fits the mold of a sleeper and that is New Orleans Saints TE Adam Trautman.

After the Saints aloud Jared Cook and Josh Hill walk away in free agency, that left Trautman all alone at the Top of the TE depth chart. Now last season he didn't do anything to write home about (15 receptions, 171 yards, 1 TD) but he's nothing is standing between him and opportunity to produce.

First of all let's look at the WR/TE depth chart. At WR, the only true experience is Michael Thomas and the inconsistent Tre'Quan Smith, with a bunch of 2nd and 3rd year no-names behind them. At TE they signed Nick Vannett but he is a blocking TE, again no depth. Trautman has the opportunity to the be 3rd or 4th option at in the passing game and the Top TE option, and we all know that the TE is a QBs best friend and either Winston or Hill will use the TE as a short or intermediate pass catching option.

Now let's look at the Head Coach, Sean Payton who has produced 6 Top 10 Fantasy TE's. Three of those came from Jimmy Graham in 2011, 2013, and 2014, Jared Cook in 2019, Ben Watson in 2015, and Jeremy Shockey when Payton was the OC [offensive coordinator] for the Giants in 2002.

Everything here points to a successful season at the TE position for Adam Trautman. So if you are drafting, and you don't want to take a top TE and you miss out on those mid-range TEs, you can draft Adam Trautman late or wait and get him off the waiver-wire as a backup. The potential is there, in what is traditionally a high-powered Saints offense. #AgentJO
