The redshirt senior from Western Michigan is a dynamic, gadget-like player who has the athletic profile to succeed in the NFL. In his 5 years at Western Michigan, he amassed 2244 yards on 121 receptions and totaled 15 touchdowns. Looking at just volume, his stats leave some to be desired considering he played for 5 years. However, over his last 3 years, he averaged at least 20 yards per catch each season. His best season was certainly his 2020 season, where he totaled 768 yards on 33 receptions and 8 TD’s in just 6 games. He did this while averaging 23.3 yards per catch and added 2 carries for 43 yards rushing. This was also his first season where he returned kicks where he returned 17 kicks for 467 yards and 1 TD in 6 games.
Eskridge is currently projected to go in either the 2nd or 3rd round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He is a player who has fantastic speed, is a good route runner, and a natural catcher of the football. When you watch him on film, you can see he is very quick off of the line due to his speed. Although his size will limit him some at the next level, Eskridge can definitely play physical and has some great contested catches in his career. He actually played cornerback in both high school and a little at Western Michigan. One could argue that his level of competition is weak compared to other players coming out, which I would agree with. However, Eskridge proved at the Senior Bowl that he is able to handle other top players. I will provide a link down below that has every 1-on-1 rep of his at the Senior Bowl, you’ll be impressed.
I see D’Wayne Eskridge excelling as a slot receiver that has the ability stretch the field. He will likely become the lead kick returner to which ever team drafts him, and should get some rushing attempts as a gadget player on top of that. Due to his size, he will not ever be a true number 1 on an NFL team, but he will get plenty of targets based off his ability to take it to the house on every play. There are quite a few teams that are in need of a WR, but I believe the best fit for Eskridge (fantasy wise) would be with the Tennessee Titans who could use a field stretcher to pair with AJ Brown and Derrick Henry.
Best case: Percy Harvin
Worst case: Mecole Hardman
