Castle Blacks Waiver Wire

Welcome back to the wire FantasyHolics. We are definitely going to need some waiver help this week. Some big names got injured or are still injured and we have the Ravens Colts Dolphins and Vikings on bye. That is some serious fire power that you need to bench this week. The deeper we get into the season, the thinner the wire gets. It is crucial this time of year to constantly scour the wire because good players get dropped due to bye weeks. On a normal ESPN or Yahoo redraft league you have 6-7 bench spots. In my league of record I have 3 weekly starters on bye and a 4th that I have used in the flex multiple times. You can imagine the scrambling that I am doing to not drop any good players but odds are I will have no choice but to drop a player that has zero business being on the wire or take a zero at a position for the week. Sad but true.

One tip I have for this time of year is to offer some 2 for 1 or 3 for 2 trades to as many teams as you can. You can free up a roster spot that way. Even if it is not a great trade for you it is generally far better than dropping a valuable player to pick up a 1 week waiver fill in that probably is not that good. I personally am looking at having to drop someone like Dionte Johnson or Chase Edmonds(I roster K. Drake) to pick up a QB and TE this week. I would much rather package Johnson and my TE Gesicki for a decent TE rather than just drop Gesicki for a bum on the wire. That move would also free up a roster spot to grab a QB to stream while my Lamar Jackson is on bye. That is just one example but you know your league and league mates and their tendencies so get out there and do what you have to do to skate through the bye weeks with a few wins. Also when targeting players on the wire or for trades, factor in if they had their bye yet. Someone like Darren Waller is extremely enticing to me because Waller is one of the very few set and forget TEs this year and he had his bye already. Hunter Henry is also a great TE trade target who is cheaper than Waller.

A few injuries happened this weekend, most notably Miles Sanders, Zach Ertz and Joe Mixon. Sanders is missing this Thursday’s game vs. the Giants at a minimum. Ertz is out a month with high ankle and no definite news on Mixon but he seems the least serious of the 3. Dallas Goedert is still on IR and will not suit up Thursday but he has serious value while Ertz is out. Boston Scott will be a hot pickup and should be rostered with low end RB 2 expectations. Gio Bernard has huge value if Mixon misses any games. We won’t have any news on Mixon before waivers run but if you are the Mixon manager you probably want to put a claim in for Bernard. Also enjoy the ridiculous porn mustache on Gio Bernard in his ESPN profile.

Here are my top targets for this week and also remember to look who was dropped tomorrow morning. I promise there will be someone there that has no business on waivers.
