Monday Night Football Reaction
Week 9 Monday Night Reaction - # PrimeTime Royalty
I’m not sure why this game would EVER be considered for a primetime game, but especially this year. This was NOT a game that a sports fan would plan his night around. Both of these teams are playing for a shot to win the Trevor Lawrence Sweepstakes.
The New England Patriots (2-5) have been decimated by injuries and COVID, leaving them in unfamiliar territory, with a losing record. They travel to New Jersey to take on the New York Jets (0-8), who have just been a DISASTER all season, andwhom are making things worse, by trading away their remaining prized players.
The Jets came out hot, managing to take a lead, and hold onto it until late in the 4th quarter, but somehow manage to squander it, losing on a last second 51-yard field goal by the Patriots kicker Nick Folk, who was the Jets kicker for 7 years, missing PLENTY of opportunities in that time.
Breshad Perriman (NYJ) – 5 Receptions, 101 yards, 2 TD. One of the few bright spots left on this team, Perriman shined on Monday Night.
Jakobi Meyers (NE)- 12 receptions, 169 yards. With Edelman and N’Keal Harry both sidelined for this contest, it was all on Meyers, who had a career night. In fact, he DOUBLED both his reception and yardage total on the season with this one game.
Cam Newton (NE) – 27/35 for 274 passing yards, 10 carries, 16 yds, 2 TD. The Patriots DESPERATELY needed some better play from their leader, and this week, he produced. Newton enforced his will over the lowly Jets both through the air and on the ground scoring 2 rushing TD and helping his team to victory.
James White (NE) – 2 carries, 0 yards. 4 receptions, 24 yards. The Patriots backfield has always been a bit of a crap shoot, but especially with Edelman and Harry both out due to injury, you would think White was primed for a big game. NOPE. White was essentially phased out of the offense and was able to do very little with his opportunities, leaving many fantasy owners scratching their heads.
