Report: Washington officially changes name.
WASHINGTON, DC—As public pressure from sponsors began to mount, Washington owner Dan Snyder finally had to act on what many have been calling for over the past decade. Drop the name Redskins.
In a press conference Friday, Snyder announced that they have indeed moved forward with the name change. “We want to honor our tradition as a franchise,” said Snyder, “but we understand that words can hurt, intentional or not.”
Snyder finally revealed the new branding with a logo reveal. “Washington will now be know as the Washington Snyders. I really believe this new branding effort will really encompass everything this franchise is about.”
The new branding and logo change will go into effect at the beginning of the 2021 season.
