Thursday Night Preview
An old school matchup for tonight Chargers visiting the Raiders. The Raiders were once a team that looked to be a lock for the playoffs are floating along looking for a spot to slip into the playoffs at this point. The Chargers on the other hand continue to get a sample of what they got with first round all world QB Justin Herbert.
We will start with the visiting Chargers who at 4-9 are out of the playoff picture but that doesn’t mean they have nothing to play for. Herbert has the opportunity to continue his assault on a claim for the best rookie quarterback season of all time. Who knew a trainers poor decision to puncture Tyrod Taylor’s lung would work out so well. Austin Ekeler is back from his prolonged injury and is back to being the leagues poor man Marshall Faulk. It only spreads out the offense more. Herbert should be able to take more shots down the field and look to the “Self-proclaimed” best WR in the league Keenan Allen.
Jon Gruden has the Raiders playing at a fairly high level. This a team that was in shambles for 15 years before the return of Gruden. The offense which is Gruden’s speciality has run a very effective program. Derek Carr is on pace for most likely a pro bowl season with an at times group of young inexperienced wide receiver core and Nelson Agholor. Darren Waller continues to be a revelation and is the second best tight end in the league at this time. Josh Jacobs should rush for 1000 yards but it could be so much more. The Raiders to quickly at times abandon the ground. With Jacobs being a high volume runner. The Raiders are 5-0 when Jacobs gets 20 or more carries.
This isn’t going to be a defensive struggle. Look for both teams to move the ball scoring early and often.
